The Wihichaw Maskokamik Society was founded with the guidance from ceremony, where we were gifted our name. In our ways, names carry spirits and with that spirit comes guidance and protection. Wihcihaw Maskokamik means “Everyone gets help at the Bear Lodge”, a name that speaks to our purpose and cultural teachings. It reminds us that healing, support and community are meant for all.
Rooted in Cree values, we believe that true change comes through partnership. Decolonization is not something we do alone, it is a shared path. By working together, we move closer to a future built on respect, understanding and collective strength.
We envision thriving Indigenous communities where every individual—regardless of circumstance—feels safe, valued, and supported. Guided by our cultures, traditions, and the strength of our ancestors, we strive for a future where healing is holistic, support is accessible, and all people can live with dignity, purpose, and connection.
Our team is made up of dedicated professionals who are passionate about our mission. We come from diverse backgrounds and bring a wide range of skills and expertise to our work. Together, we are committed to making a difference in our community.
Since our founding , Wihcihaw Maskokamik has helped thousands of individuals and families in our community. From providing emergency assistance to helping people find stable housing, we are proud of the impact we have made. But there is still much work to be done, and we are committed to continuing our efforts.
